It is too soon to tell yet what the outcome of Google Deindexing Build My Rank will be on the freelance writing world, but I cannot help but think eliminating a market for low paying, low quality articles will be a good thing.
For those who are unaware of what I am talking about, I will explain. In the past, article directories like the huge Build My Rank network would take pay for publishing articles on their network of websites with a link embedded to the customer’s website. This link to the website was useful for helping them climb in search results since, at the time, Google used links from other sites as “votes” of authority when determining which websites to return in their search results.
This was, in effect, a way to buy website authority, something Google specifically did not want to be happening since it ended up slanting their search results to those websites who could buy links rather than to those earning “votes” because of the quality of their websites.
The other problem with sites like Build My Rank was that the articles published were of a very low quality that writers were getting $1 or less for writing. The quality of the articles did not seem to matter as long as the link to the internet marketer’s website counted as “vote” for their website’s popularity or authority.
That is why Google deindexed BMR. This means Build My Rank no longer shows up in Google’s search results, which, in effect, makes all of those links in all of those worthless articles, worthless.
Since other such types of directories were also deindexed at the same time, my feeling is that it will wipe out the market for low paying, low quality articles.
I assume this will be a good thing for freelance writers but have yet to see any effects yet.
What does everyone else think? Is this a good thing for freelance writers? Please let me hear what you think in the comments below.
